The world’ top ethanol producer and exporter makes an appeal to automakers: produce more flex-fuel vehicles.
At the announcement of Brazil’s ten millionth flex-fuel vehicle, the Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association or UNICA urged automakers around the globe to invest more and to produce more vehicles that can run on ethanol fuel. According to Marcos Jank, UNICA President, flex-fuel vehicles will allow motorists to load renewable fuel which is cheaper and has less adverse impacts on the environment.
Actually, flex-fuel technology is not a new concept. In fact, flex-fuel vehicles have been around for quite sometime both in the United States and in Europe but the their popularity has not yet reached other countries partly because of underdeveloped ethanol industries like in the Philippines or the lack of support or extensive market like in Brazil.
Alfred Szwarc, Technology and Emissions Consultant for UNICA, advises automakers to present their American or European success stories on flex-fuel vehicles to other countries in order to serve as a good and viable example. Also, flex-fuel vehicles should be introduced or presented in auto shows and other important automotive events to increase awareness about this technology. The presentation should likewise be accompanied by a short public education or lecture so that people will not grow apprehensive about buying or using flex-fuel vehicles.
