One advantage is that ethanol can be mass-produced. This is done in two ways – either by the fermenting of sugar or by the hydration of ethylene from petroleum and other sources. It is also renewable in a sense that it results from the conversion of energy from the sun to another form of usable energy. Ethanol starts from photosynthesis that allows feedstock like sugarcane, corn, and switchgrass to grow. These are then processed and converted to ethanol. This means that we can have a constant supply of ethanol unlike fossil fuels which can be limited and can be depleted. Additionally, E10 imparts environmental benefits as it keeps the air clean because it burns cleaner than ordinary gasoline and it can reduce harmful emissions.
To date, there are several types of feedstock available in the market. Most of them are food crops like sugarcane, corn, cassava, and sweet sorghum. Other potential feedstocks that are non-food crops include jatropha and algae.
Perhaps another concern of the Filipinos is whether or not E10 is safe to use on their vehicles. Well, technically, E10 can be used for most of the vehicles that run on ordinary unleaded gas. It does not require any expensive engine modification. In addition, using E10 can also yield other benefits:
• The ethanol content in E10 can add 2 to 3 po ints of octane to gasoline. This means that there is improved engine performance.
• E10 comes with a natural, renewable additive that cleans the engine parts and the fuel system, allowing better performance. This works even in older engine models.
• E10 actually helps in keeping your engine cooler since the ethanol content in the fuel combusts at relatively lower temperatures than regular gasoline does.
• Since E10 keeps the engine parts and fuel system clean, it helps in slowing down corrosion and prevents minor problems on seals and valves.
However, motorists are still advised to ask their dealers first before loading E10 into their engines.
And since I have also noticed that more and more Filipinos are now riding motorcycles, there are some 4T motorcycle models that are already designed compatibly with bioethanol gasoline.
With all these benefits and advantages, what more can motorists ask for? The E10 has everything you need.
