A couple of weeks ago, BiofuelsHub has posted that Petron is phasing out their Xtra Unleaded gasoline. Apparently, this phasing out has already started in Metro Manila last May 11, 2009 with franchised and provincial gasoline stations following soon. This is based on the information relayed to us by the personnel of Petron gasoline station along Gil Puyat Avenue corner Makati Avenue. In fact, the said gasoline station does not offer Petron Xtra Unleaded anymore. It turns out that we are not the only who was given this information since we found a forum over at Yehey.com on the same topic.
To set the record straight, we got in touch with Ms. Jane de Leon from the Marketing Department of Petron. Loyal consumers of Petron Xtra Unleaded need not worry. According to Ms. De Leon, Petron did not really phase out their Xtra Unleaded gasoline product. Instead, this gasoline product is on hold because Petron is redefining it by blending it with 10% ethanol. However, the new Petron Xtra Unleaded-E10 is not yet commercially-available. According to Ms. De Leon, they have not yet set a definite date and area yet as to when and where this product will be released.
