Page 1 of 2 According to the Biofuels Act of 2006, by February 2011, all gasoline products in the Philippine market should have at least 10% ethanol blend. As early as now, oil companies in the Philippines are starting to comply with this mandate. Last April 1, 2009, Shell Philippines has started offering consumers 10% ethanol-blended gasoline in three variants namely super Unleaded, Super Premium, and V-Power.
The initial rollout of Shell’s 10% ethanol-blended gasoline is available in five key locations in the Philippines namely Metro Manila, Batangas, Cebu, Davao, and Poro. The same is true for Petron which recently phased out their Xtra Unleaded gasoline product and replaced it with new Petron Xtra Unleaded-E10. Seaoil sells only ethanol-blended gasoline. The recent addition to their roster of products is the Extreme 97 which is an E10 gasoline that boasts of 97-octane rating, selling at cheaper prices than regular gasoline.
Indeed, wit h all these talks on shifting gasoline products in the market to E10 gasoline, more and more Filipinos are becoming aware of ethanol-blended gasoline. Hence, Filipino car owners are becoming more inquisitive as to whether or not their car models are compatible with E10 gasoline. BiofuelsHub was able to receive numerous inquiries and comments on car models compatible with E10. In order to address your concerns, we have coordinated with various car manufacturers. Our coordination has given us some new information that we would like to share with you.
Just like the oil companies, car manufacturers are likewise preparing themselves for the increase in the ethanol blend increase in the biofuel mandate that will take place in two years’ time. For instance, Toyota Philippines has already released a bulletin on how Toyota car owners can make their older car models compatible to ethanol-blended gasoline. According to a Toyota customer service representative, older car models only need to replace some of the components in their fuel system. They may also have to install engine enhancers. Toyota car owners are advised to drop by or to visit the nearest Toyota Service Centers regarding this.
